The Manwaring Family
The Manwaring family is one of the earliest families to have inhabited the village of Niantic, as well as New London County. For centuries, family members have worked various professions from ship captains to shipbuilders and farmers to carpenters.
it all started in 1946
In 1946, William E. Manwaring began work in the Old Black Point section of Niantic. By the dawn of the 50’s, he created William E. Manwaring and Sons Construction Company. The company’s services included new home construction, renovation, as well as caretaking and even grounds keeping.
A Famiy-run business
All three of William’s sons worked for the company as they grew up. At the beginning of the 1960’s, William acquired a landscaping business from a local business owner. He soon renamed the company and put it under the care of his youngest son, Arnold; hence the birth of Niantic Lawn & Caretaker Service, Inc.
Growing with the Future
Arnold has since passed the business along to his youngest son, Melville, who manages the company today. The company currently employs between 5 and 15 employees on a seasonal basis and still provides many of the services that it did over 60 years ago.
